4th of July
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006Yesterday was the 4th of July. It’s one of my favorite holidays. It’s also one of the holiday’s that Washington D.C. does really well. Every year Pete and I bike down and hang out at the Folk life festival (this year there was Alberta, Native American Basket weaving, and Latino Music of Chicago).
So some years there’s rain, and some years it’s hot (ok every year). Although this year we got some really weird storm that went through. It only lasted about 1/2 hour - but it blew all the food tents away. So afterwords - food was definitely much harder than normal to find. At least it cooled things off a bit.
.
Didn’t have chance to get any film - so I took the toy digi-camera Pete gave me for my birthday. At least I got a good picture of the ceramic potter from Alberta (well - not the best quality since it’s a toy camera). Perhaps I should start thinking about a real digital camera …. Looks like I didn’t take any pictures of the Alberta soap maker. She had a very good demonstration on how to make soap from “fat” and lye.
Well the fireworks were worth the bike ride downtown. They always are. Although I did notice a conspicuous lack of peace symbols in the display this year - but we did spot the saturns and smilie face fireworks.
Hope everyone had a good 4th of July.
