Lake Placid

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Out trip up to Lake Placid started with a birthday party in NYC.  Thanks to some of the business ravel Pete had with a previous job - we got to stay in a free hotel room.  So we arrived in Lake Placid early enough to see the disappointing superbowl.

Monday we enjoyed the Olympic Cross Country ski trails.  They were nicely groomed.

It had been along time since I had been skiing and some of the bindings had changed from when I used to live in New Mexico (many moons ago).  The 3 hole binding that I was used to - was still used - but mostly for back country and telemarking.  So most of the rental places used the new toe clip boots.

Other interesing points to note were that I was not used to paying to ski on the trails (from when I was a kid and we went skiing on random trails in Colorado).  Looks like most trails in the region are maintained and hence require fees.  However, the fees are pretty reasonable.

Tuesday Pete got to try out the 3 hole binding and I got to try out the toe clip binding.  We both ended up liking the 3 hole binding much better.  So in our excitement we purchased some new skiis which I waxed that night.

Sadly Pete got sick on Wednesday and never got to try out his new skiis (mine worked very well).

So since Pete was still sick on Thursday we came home early.  We’ll just have to go up again to try out some of the other activities:-)
